New Book Things!

We meet again, friends!

I’m glad we’re catching up because I have so much to tell you! I have SEQUEL NEWS and NEW BOOK NEWS! Where do I even begin?

Let’s start with NEW BOOK NEWS! From this morning’s Publisher’s Lunch!

September 4, 2013 – EMMY & OLIVER by Robin Benway

Author of Audrey, Wait! and the Also Known As series Robin Benway’s EMMY & OLIVER, a novel of lost and found love after a girl’s childhood best friend is returned following a parental kidnapping, to Kristen Pettit at Harper Children’s, in a two-book deal, by Lisa Grubka at Fletcher & Company (NA).

I’ve sat on this news for a long, long time, so it’s so nice to have it be officially official! I’ve been wanting to write EMMY & OLIVER for a few years now, so it’ll be exciting to get started. I love meeting new characters and hearing what they have to say. Also, Kristen Pettit is not only a lovely person & editor, but she was my editor on AUDREY, WAIT! so I’m thrilled to work with her again. Popsicles all around!

And if that wasn’t enough news, I have more! GOING ROGUE, the sequel to ALSO KNOWN AS, will be published on January 14, 2014! My first sequel!

goingRogue_LimeGreen_AKAfillOoh! Intrigue! Rogue things! And I’m trying to track down that owl necklace that Maggie is wearing on the cover, so hit a girl up if you know where to find it.

I can tell you a few things about the book without spoiling it: It involves spies. (Duh.) Bad guys. Kissing. Cuckoo clocks. Chess matches. Paris. Jesse. Roux. And Angelo, of course. We could never forget Angelo! I posted a photo of the inside quotes on Instagram, so take a look. (Picking the quotes is one of my favorite parts of writing a book, by the way.)

Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 9.41.32 AMI’ve also been keeping a super-secret Tumblr page filled with all the pictures, videos, songs, and miscellany that I’ve collected while researching & writing GOING ROGUE, so I’ll put the link up once the book is published. How did people procrastinate write books before Tumblr? It’s a mystery.

In the meantime, you can pre-order GOING ROGUE at B&N, Amazon, or your local indie. And I will be touring for this book, but I’m not sure when or where yet, so stay tuned! It’s always an adventure!

I hope you are all lovely and well and healthy and happy. Now let’s get ready for autumn!

Traveling the World & Saying Thanks

Hello hello!

So here I am again, doing the bloggy thing. (I can already see the texts and emails from friends & family members: “The BLOGGY thing? Seriously?”) Regardless, though, I’m here and so are you, so let’s discuss a few things.

Firstly. ALSO KNOWN AS is going to start being released in Europe and Australia! Wheel in the confetti cannon and put your helmet on because there will be celebrating. Oh yes, there will be.

If you live in the Netherlands, good news! SPY GIRL is now available from de Fontein! Have you seen the cover? It’s pretty cute!

Do you live in the UK or Australia? Well, then, I’m aiming this particular confetti cannon in your direction because SPY SOCIETY is being released in the UK TOMORROW, JULY 18! OR 18 JULY! That’s less than 24 hours away! To celebrate the release, I’m doing a UK blog tour, so make sure to follow me on Twitter so you can see what I have to say about my dream cast, the challenges of writing about criminals when you have no criminal background (except for that one incident at the 6th grade handball courts, but we will not be discussing that right now), and my perfect soundtrack. Also, Simon & Schuster will also be releasing SPY SOCIETY in AUSTRALIA ON AUGUST 2! Just to make sure, have you seen the cover? That girl is working those sunglasses.

Oh, yeah. Speaking of soundtracks, that brings me to my next order of business. my SONG OF THE DAY blog. A lot of you have asked if I’m quitting it, if I’m putting it on hold, if I’ll ever post new music again. The truth of the matter is that for the last six months or so, I just haven’t been that inspired by music. I know. I KNOW. I was just “meh” about everything except One Direction, Ellie Goulding, and Leonard Cohen. (And just so we’re clear, I would pay a great deal of money to see those three on tour together. Imagine the harmonies on “Hallelujah”? Call me, you guys. I have IDEAS.)

But things are changing now. Spotify and I are  on speaking terms. (See that little Spotify icon above? You can click it and see what I’m listening to. I’ll wait.) I really enjoy Nick Grimshaw’s Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1. Pandora and I are getting pretty serious. I don’t know. It might be love. All this to say that the Song of the Day blog is returning starting with the last half of the ALSO KNOWN AS playlist and continuing with some of the music that’s lifted me out of my funk. My sincerest apologies for going so off-track, but now I’m back on track. Like a needle to vinyl. SEE WHAT I DID THERE? Professional writer, ladies & gentlemen.

And finally, it’s been five years since my first book AUDREY, WAIT! was published. Five years, people. If Audrey were a real person (and God, how I wish she was sometimes), she would be graduating from college. My lip quivers at the thought. But what makes me even more emotional is seeing people still talking about my sweet Aud, and I just want to say a sincere thank you to everyone who still emails me about it, who blog and talk about it, who give it to their friends and say “You have to read this!” Five years is a lifetime in YA publishing and the love you’ve shown to Audrey & Co. absolutely fills me with joy. I’m a lucky writer and you make me very happy.

Okay, enough with the sappiness. Get out of here, you crazy kids! Go get in trouble! (Not too much trouble, though. You don’t want a repeat of the 6th grade handball court incident.)
